Halla builds a plug-and-play taste-intelligence API that funnels more than 100 billion shopper and product data points into three engines: Search, Recommend and Substitute. The platform uses shopping context (not shoppers' private data) to suggest relevant complementary items and better replacements for out-of-stock products. Halla's Substitute product was released earlier this year to address poor substitutions that drive shoppers to competitors. Its technology is live in more than 1,100 e-commerce storefronts and the company reports growing traction with six- and seven-figure contracts that it says are producing a "near infinite increase in recurring revenue." The company plans to double the number of stores it supports and expand internationally with additional product lines over the next 18 months, and expects to double headcount to about 30 to support growth. That momentum is positioning Halla for a potential Series B if needed. Halla is an AI company that provides personalized recommendations for the food ordering industry. Its core product, Halla I/O (Intelligent Ordering), uses machine learning built around the psychography of food selection and billions of food-related data points to deliver personalized suggestions. The platform targets online grocers, meal kit services and food delivery businesses. It is currently being used in stealth by several regional and national grocery chains. Halla raised a $1.4M seed round (bringing total equity raised to $1.9M) and intends to use the funds to scale the I/O platform, onboard new customers and further develop its AI technology. The company is based in Los Angeles and was co-founded by Spencer Price (CEO), Henry Michaelson (CTO) and Gabriel Nipote (COO).
