Helios

348 Maplewood Avenue Unit 5, Portsmouth, NH, 03801, United States

Overview

Helios produces a lightweight wearable sensor that attaches to a hockey player’s shoulder pads and captures data on stride speed, agility, total skating time, and other movement metrics. Because the system does not need permanent hardware or temporary beacons in rinks, it can be deployed quickly across youth, junior, collegiate, and professional levels. The product also syncs data with video, giving coaches and athletes individualized feedback and development plans. Helios is already used by the U.S. women’s national team and is the preferred wearable technology of the 12-school ECAC conference. Youth teams benefit from automated player-load monitoring that can flag overuse and guide training. The company is headquartered in New Hampshire and was founded by MIT alumnus and former hockey captain Bill Near. To scale production and expand its market reach, Helios has secured a $2.2 million seed round, its first disclosed institutional capital.
