Overview
Helix Therapeutics develops a proprietary targeted gene modification (TGM) platform aimed at correcting genetic mutations in blood stem cells for diseases including sickle cell anemia, B-Thalassemia and lysosomal storage disorders. The TGM technology was developed at Yale University School of Medicine and licensed exclusively to Helix on a worldwide basis. The company intends to use newly raised capital to further advance its platform. Helix has raised a $2.5M financing that adds to previously raised seed-stage funds. In conjunction with the financing, Timothy Shannon, M.D., a venture partner at Canaan, will join Helix's board, which also includes Russell Tweeddale, Peter Glazer, M.D., Ph.D., and Kevin Rakin. Founders include Peter Glazer, Kevin Rakin, Gerald F. Vovis, Ph.D., and Ranjit Bindra, M.D., Ph.D.
