Descartes is designed to translate brain electrical activity into objective measures that can detect disease earlier, distinguish disorder subtypes, and guide treatment selection. The company deploys a lightweight dry EEG headset worn for about 15 minutes while users interact with an app to capture brain activity without surgery or lengthy protocols. Hemispheric has built dedicated data-collection labs and model-training infrastructure and demonstrated its platform to the FDA's Center for Devices and Radiological Health while pursuing a broad regulatory strategy. Its initial clinical applications target conditions including PTSD, mTBI, depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, and Alzheimer’s disease. The company has a 112-person interdisciplinary team and announced a $52 million early-stage financing to accelerate deployment, grow its data network, and advance regulatory and commercial efforts.
