Overview
Home began as an app to help landlords manage rentals but has pivoted to a managed marketplace that more directly solves landlord‑tenant interactions. The company signs contracts with landlords, fits digital locks at apartments, collects rent and handles maintenance and financial risk, effectively acting as both tenant and landlord. Tenants can visit and book apartments themselves using smart locks and contact Home 24/7 via the app. Home is currently available in Berlin, Munich and Hamburg and reports more than 1,100 landlord offer requests each month. The startup raised €11M in a Series A and says the new capital will be used for product innovation, particularly on the tenant side. It plans to expand into seven more German cities by April 2020 and one international city in October 2020. Home is a Berlin-based startup offering an iOS and Android app that helps landlords manage properties and improve the rental experience. The app automatically tracks rent payments by connecting to roughly 3,000 German banks, alerts landlords to late or missing payments, and continuously monitors property values. Founded last year by Thilo Konzok and Moritz von Hase, Home says more than 100,000 apartments are already being managed through its app. The company plans to expand the platform to tenants and to offer services around home design, improvement, and utilities (including WiFi and utility billing). Several of these tenant-focused features are currently being tested in a narrow private beta. Home frames its approach as simplifying administration for landlords to enable better housing experiences for both landlords and tenants.
