Humio

Overview

Humio built an index-free logging solution that enables companies to log everything and perform ad hoc, real-time queries over large volumes of data. The product uses a real-time streaming engine to ingest multiple terabytes of data per day and supports on-prem, cloud, and hosted SaaS deployments. The company says this approach lets customers monitor known metrics with dashboards and alerts while also tracing unexpected incidents like security events or outages from raw logs. Humio developed technology to reduce storage and processing costs, with one customer reporting a reduction from 80 servers to 14 for the same data volumes. Customers include Netlify, Bloomberg, HP Aruba and Michigan State University. The company announced an unlimited ingest plan for hosted SaaS customers and raised $20M in a Series B, bringing total funding to $32M. Humio provides a real-time log analysis platform that delivers live system observability for on-premises and cloud infrastructures. The company built its own time-series database engine and uses open-source tools such as Scala, Elm and Kafka to ingest data, run live searches and store logs for later queries. Its query language is designed to be straightforward and pipe-based, inspired by the Unix philosophy, to suit developers and operations teams. Humio charges based on data ingestion and retention, with pricing starting at $200 per month for 30 days of retention and 2 GB of ingested data. The company plans to use the new funding to expand research and development teams and move into more global markets. Humio reported a 13x increase in annual revenue in 2018 and lists customers including Bloomberg, Microsoft and Netlify; it has offices in San Francisco, the U.K. and Denmark.
