Overview
Immersive VR Education develops virtual reality software and immersive experiences focused on education, operating a platform that provides VR content for schools, colleges, universities, research centres and corporate training. The platform is used to teach a wide range of subjects in virtual environments that let students fully immerse themselves, aiming to make hard-to-visualise concepts easier to understand. Co-founded by David (CEO) and Sandra Whelan as a spin-out from Waterford Institute of Technology’s Telecoms Software and Systems Group (TSSG), the company employs 20 people at its Waterford offices. Immersive VR Education is collaborating with Oxford University and the Royal College of Surgeons to develop VR-based training programmes for medical professionals. In March 2017 the company raised €1M in funding co-led by Kernel Capital (through the Bank of Ireland Kernel Capital Venture Funds) and Suir Valley Ventures, with participation from Enterprise Ireland. The company intends to use the funds to accelerate its growth plans.
