Indow Windows makes custom acrylic window inserts edged with a patented compression tube that homeowners press into existing frames to reduce drafts and noise. The inserts are manufactured in Portland, distributed through 26 dealers, and an average-size unit costs about $250. The company says inserts cost about 80 percent of the cost to replace a window and qualify for a federal tax credit. Dealers handle laser measurements (Seattle’s Neil Kelly is a main dealer) and submit dimensions via specialized software; turnaround from measurement to shipping is about three weeks. Management says demand has been strong and the company is scaling up distribution and production to meet interest. New funding will be applied to product development and sales and marketing to support that growth.
