Infinit builds a peer-to-peer file-sharing app designed to transfer very large files without size limits. Its technology enables direct fast transfers between users, automatically switching to local-network transfers and supporting pause/resume for large uploads. For recipients who do not use Infinit, the service can generate a browser download link and upload the file to Infinit’s servers. The company highlights real-world performance — an Australian post-production studio sent a 500GB file in 32 minutes using Infinit. Infinit has launched a Windows beta after an initial OS X release and says it plans to expand to more platforms while keeping the majority of its team in Paris. The startup recently raised $1.8 million from Alven Capital and 360 Capital Partners and will use the funding to hire a few people. Infinit offers a macOS-only peer-to-peer file transfer app that integrates directly into the Finder, allowing drag-and-drop sharing to contacts shown as avatars. The company uses its own P2P file-sharing technology developed from co-founder Julien Quintard’s PhD research on decentralized file systems at the University of Cambridge and deliberately shuns BitTorrent. Transfers are encrypted directly between sender and recipient, which Infinit says prevents any third party — including Infinit — from accessing exchanged data. Infinit launched in private beta and places an Infinit item in Finder favorites with a simple interface for the seven most-shared contacts plus search by email. Pricing includes a free tier with a 2GB file-size limit and paid plans with unlimited file size; anyone who downloads during private beta receives an unlimited version “for life.” The company is a graduate of the Le Camping accelerator and is backed by external investors.
