Initial Therapeutics
285 East Grand Avenue, South San Francisco, CA, 94080, United States
Overview
Initial Therapeutics is a biotechnology company built around a proprietary selective termination of protein synthesis (STOPS) platform. The company developed STOPS to discover therapeutics that block notoriously difficult-to-drug protein targets by selectively interrupting translation as a protein emerges from the ribosome exit tunnel. Initial was created to apply this recently demonstrated scientific premise to drug discovery. The company was created by Apple Tree Partners and co-founded by Jamie H.D. Cate (UC Berkeley), Brian Paegel (UC Irvine), and Kevan Shokat (UCSF/UC Berkeley). Spiros Liras, Ph.D., is the founding CEO and a venture partner at Apple Tree Partners. Initial Therapeutics raised $75M in a Series A financing, according to the article.
