InnFocus is developing the InnFocus MicroShunt glaucoma drainage system to treat all stages of primary open‑angle glaucoma. The device was developed with the University of Miami's Miller School of Medicine, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, and is made from SIBS, a highly biocompatible material implanted in the body for over 15 years. The MicroShunt provides a quick, minimally invasive procedure that shunts aqueous humor to the same drainage path used in trabeculectomy without cutting scleral tissue, controlling suture tension, or using patch grafts, and has been implanted alone or with cataract surgery. The company is about to enter the final phase of its FDA clinical trial, which is a prospective randomized study comparing the device to trabeculectomy and includes patients with mild, moderate, and severe glaucoma. Prior clinical work includes over 100 US cases in Phase I and more than 200 patients treated outside the US with up to three years of follow‑up, showing mean IOP reductions from ~25 mm Hg to below 15 mm Hg and the majority off medication at three years. The recent financing is intended to help complete the final phase of the FDA trial.
