Overview
Innodem Neurosciences is advancing proprietary, patented digital biomarking technology for neurodegenerative diseases including multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, frontotemporal dementia and cancer-related cognitive impairment. Its mobile application converts a tablet or smartphone into a device that captures Eye Movement Biomarkers (EMBs) and Gaze Mapping Biomarkers (GMBs) within minutes to assist clinicians’ diagnosis. Current and planned clinical validation trials will provide EMB and GMB data to the company’s fully integrated HIPAA/PIPEDA-compliant data management pipeline. The company leverages deep learning across its pipeline for data processing and analysis. Led by cognitive neurologist Dr. de Villers-Sidani (main founder, CEO & CSO) and co-founder Marc Reeves (Chief Business Officer), Innodem is focused on commercialization of its technology. The company intends to use the funds from the Series A to support development and commercialization efforts. Innodem’s core product, Pigio™, is a mobile app that uses patent-pending image-processing and machine-learning to capture eye movements via standard tablet and smartphone cameras and trigger text-to-speech output. The app requires no additional hardware, is intended to replace printed letterboards and costly dedicated eye-tracking systems, and is planned for public availability on the Apple App Store in spring 2019. Pigio™ will be free with optional advanced features priced at $39.95/month or $360/year, and is being deployed and tested in hospitals across North America, including a Massachusetts hospital and facilities in California. The company intends to commercialize initially within a consortium of Montreal hospitals, outpatient clinics, and rehabilitation centers, and has reported interest from a large Chinese healthcare provider with 1,500 hospitals. Future plans include using collected eye-movement data and state-of-the-art machine learning to develop diagnostic-assistance applications and biomarkers for neurological disorders, with potential value to physicians and pharmaceutical companies. Financially, Innodem received $1 million in financing from angel, banking and government entities to begin commercialization, and previously completed an initial angel round in May 2018.
