Overview

InnoUp Farma S.L., founded in 2013 and based in Noain (Navarra), has developed a nanoparticle-based biocompatible encapsulation platform to enable safer oral administration with improved biodistribution and efficacy. The platform is being applied to oral immunotherapy for food allergies—notably a peanut allergy vaccine—and to a new oral formulation of the chemotherapeutic paclitaxel for certain cancers. Their encapsulation approach allows higher administered doses while reducing toxicity and improving therapeutic effect. With the recent financing, the company plans to complete a phase I/II clinical trial of its oral peanut allergy vaccine in allergic patients. Successful clinical results would bring the technology closer to a potential licensing agreement with pharmaceutical companies. Financially, the company secured an approximately €1 million equity round that includes a committed €299,700 investment from CDTI's Innvierte program. InnoUp Farma is a Noain, Spain–based nanomedicine company focused on developing and licensing high-value therapies for major diseases with unmet medical needs. Founded in 2013 in Pamplona by Maite Agüeros, Juan Manuel Irache and Manuel Rodríguez Mariscal, the company develops solutions for the oral administration of drugs using a nanoparticle-based technology platform. Its projects include enabling oral administration of anti-cancer drugs with low oral bioavailability, using nanoparticles as adjuvants in immunotherapy and vaccination, and creating new over-the-counter products. The platform is positioned to improve oral bioavailability and to act as an immunologic adjuvant. InnoUp Farma raised €2m in public-private funding and intends to use the proceeds to continue development of its projects. The company focuses on licensing its technologies to address major unmet medical needs.
