Insilico develops drugs using machine learning to identify potential targets and to create novel molecules, and it applies the same technology toward sustainable chemistry. The company operates R&D teams across Hong Kong, Shanghai and New York. Its CEO Alex Zhavoronkov described the fundraising environment as a “biotech winter.” Insilico recently implemented a dual-CEO structure, promoting GSK veteran Dr. Feng Ren to co-CEO to oversee R&D and the drug business while Zhavoronkov focuses on the AI platform. The firm says proprietary data generated by its R&D efforts is used to train its models for internal drug discovery and to export the technology to other companies. Financially, Insilico has closed tranches of a Series D that together total $95 million, with the latest $35 million tranche reported as oversubscribed and the company declining to disclose valuation.
