Intelligent Apps builds myTaxi, a smartphone taxi-ordering application. The company reports myTaxi has an 80% market share in Europe, 800,000 downloads and 7,000 registered taxi drivers. The app is available in over 30 cities across Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Intelligent Apps says it will focus on expanding into Spain, England and the Netherlands and aims to develop strategic partnerships with investors Deutsche Telekom and car2go. The startup raised €10 million in growth funding from car2go (a Daimler subsidiary) with participation from Lars Hinrichs, T‑Venture and KfW Bankengruppe. Bloomberg Businessweek reported Daimler took a 15% stake; Daimler is said to manufacture more than 60% of all taxis in Germany. Intelligent Apps develops 1TouchTaxi, a smartphone-based system that automatically determines a passenger's geolocation and notifies the nearest taxi. The software provides information about the taxi and driver, estimated arrival time and fare, and lets users track the taxi on a map before pickup. The system is available to drivers and passengers in Hamburg and, since March 2010, about 450 taxi drivers have adopted 1TouchTaxi. The company received an investment of undisclosed amount from T-Venture and e42. The new capital will allow Intelligent Apps to roll out and establish the system in other German cities and to expand its feature set. No revenue or other financial metrics were disclosed in the article.
