Interface Biosciences has developed an AI and metabolomics-based discovery platform to identify bacterial natural products that modulate the immune system and reduce inflammation. The company is advancing therapeutic programs targeting inflammatory diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease and rheumatoid arthritis. Its lead program is a 44‑amino peptide derived from Ruminococcus gnavus that the company reports has wound-healing, anti-inflammatory, and antibiotic activity against pathogens including Clostridium difficile and Staphylococcus aureus. Initial data reportedly show the lead compound is stable and non-toxic, with in vivo studies slated to begin in January 2024. Interface was founded by Stanford PhDs Hannah C. Wastyk and Will Van Treuren and is based in Palo Alto. The company recently closed an oversubscribed $3 million seed round to advance its platform and programs.
