Internet Backyard
San Francisco, CA, United States
Overview
Internet Backyard develops software that automates billing and other back-office financial functions for companies operating in the computer economy. Co-founded by Mai Trinh and Gabriel Ravacci, the startup originally began in Canada but reincorporated in Delaware and relocated to San Francisco to accelerate growth. Management cites stronger U.S. fintech infrastructure, faster access to venture capital, and more streamlined visa options as key reasons for the move. The company quickly secured a US$4.5 million round at a US$25 million post-money valuation, giving it the financial runway to expand its product suite and customer base. Despite relocating, Internet Backyard has already launched two customer pilots in Vancouver and believes Canada’s data-centre advantages could support future expansion, particularly in energy-efficient facility management. The founders argue that improved Canadian immigration policy and fintech infrastructure could eventually draw them back. To date, the firm is valued at roughly CA$34 million (US$25 million) and is focused on scaling its financial infrastructure platform.
