Overview

InTouch Health is a specialty telehealth network and managed service provider that operates the InTouch Telehealth Cloud and network infrastructure. The company offers telehealth network and managed services to hospitals and healthcare systems for delivery of specialty care. InTouch has helped more than 130 healthcare systems deploy telehealth programs and has enabled nearly three-quarters of a million clinical encounters. Its cloud now manages more than 200,000 clinical connections annually for over 1,500 hospital locations globally. The company plans to use an investment from Intuitive Surgical to increase spending to enhance functionality and scale of its telehealth cloud. Future product development under the collaboration will focus on patient informatics, including delivering 3D reconstructions of anatomical structures and other surgeon-facing data over the InTouch telehealth cloud. InTouch Health provides FDA-cleared remote presence (“RP”) telemedicine devices and the SureCONNECT cloud-based infrastructure to enable real-time physician consults across EDs, ICUs, wards, procedure rooms, ambulances and homes. The company emphasizes interoperability, workflow imaging and documentation, and service and support for clinical use. Its Remote Presence network is enrolled in more than 400 hospital locations on six continents for services including stroke, critical care, cardiology, trauma, pediatrics, neonatology, mental health, language translation, clinical education and surgical/procedure mentoring. InTouch reports ten years of experience in robotic telemedicine solutions. The company announced a $6 million investment from iRobot Corp. and has a joint development and licensing agreement with iRobot (formalized July 2011) to explore healthcare robotic applications. The collaboration aims to integrate iRobot’s navigation, mobility and manipulation expertise into InTouch’s platform to increase mobility, utility and ease of use for clinicians and to develop purpose-built robots for remote presence healthcare and assistive technologies for the elderly. InTouch Health develops telemedicine and remote-presence (RP) technologies that allow physicians to perform real-time consults and diagnoses with hospital patients. Its RP systems are deployed in more than 300 hospital locations nationwide, including 50 across Michigan. The company plans to use new capital to open an engineering R&D center in Michigan staffed with advanced robotics engineers, leveraging the state’s skilled labor pool. Proceeds will also fund further product development, sales and marketing efforts, and international expansion. The investment came as part of a Series D financing and reflects continued support for the company’s commercialization and growth initiatives.
