Overview
IO River has built the “Virtual Edge,” a Multi-Edge Platform-as-a-Service that abstracts away the complexity of running traffic over several CDN and edge networks. Instead of relying on a single provider, customers can instantly steer and optimize traffic across multiple vendors, improving reliability, latency, and cost. The company already serves “tens of customers,” including Accor Hotels, Playtika, and Minute Media, and it currently delivers over 200 petabytes of data each month. CEO and co-founder Edward Tsinovoi, who previously led Akamai’s Core Platform group, started the company roughly three-and-a-half years ago. IO River’s roadmap aims to “decouple infrastructure from add-on services,” effectively becoming the “Uber of the edge” by broadening edge capacity and opening the market to new service providers. This strategy also targets the unbundling of security and other application services from underlying edge infrastructure. The firm is growing rapidly as generative-AI–driven content and personalized experiences intensify demand for flexible edge delivery.
