Overview
Ionity is a joint venture founded in 2017 that builds and operates ultra-high-speed electric vehicle charging stations. Its owners include major automakers such as Daimler AG and Volkswagen Group and it was launched with a coalition including Hyundai Motor Group, Ford and BMW. The company currently has about 1,500 charging points installed and plans to expand to 7,000 charging points across Europe by 2025. New sites will be placed on highways, major roads and near cities with six to 12 chargers per location, and Ionity will add more chargers at high-demand sites. It is also planning full-service "Oasis" stations—roadside-style rest stops where drivers can recharge while their vehicles charge. The company secured a €700 million equity investment to fund this expansion.
