Overview

Ionix (formerly Cyberpion) provides an attack surface management platform that gives enterprises a unified view of their security posture across on‑premises, cloud and third‑party services. The service inventories tools and assets that often sit beyond a company’s firewall, helping customers discover assets they otherwise wouldn’t know about. Ionix says its customers discover 50% more assets than with other tools and uses that visibility to help IT and security teams prioritize exploitable risks and improve security posture. The company positions itself against incumbents and startups in the space, including IBM and Mandiant, by claiming a broader perspective on external exposures. Customers named in the article include Lexmark, Warner Music Group, Infosys and E.ON. CEO Marc Gaffan described the company’s mission as providing the widest possible outsider’s view of an attack surface and focusing on critical exposures to help customers prioritize remediation. Cyberpion provides an external attack surface management platform that analyzes and maps a company’s outside‑facing assets and infrastructure to identify risks and vulnerabilities. The company scans the whole internet multiple times a day and maps connections downstream to the Nth degree. It has expanded beyond mapping to characterize unconnected or lost corporate assets (for example locally registered domains) and offers that capability as a paid add‑on. Cyberpion’s platform also aims to provide automatic defense by continuously assessing external assets across third, fourth and Nth‑party connections. Since its October 2020 seed round, revenue has more than tripled and the customer base has quadrupled, adding one Fortune 10 customer and dozens in the Fortune 500. The company is positioning its product to capture greater share as adoption of attack surface assessment solutions remains low, according to a cited Gartner figure. Cyberpion provides security tooling that analyzes a company’s connections across the public internet to discover known and unknown external assets across an organization’s ecosystem. The product continuously scans those assets for vulnerabilities, issues alerts, and provides recommendations to remediate risks such as DNS hijacking or injected third‑party code. The service focuses on assets that sit beyond traditional security perimeters and third‑party supply‑chain connections. Cyberpion already operates teams in the U.S. and Israel. The company raised an $8.25M seed round and plans to use the funding to expand sales and marketing and accelerate product development. The founding team includes CEO Nethanel Gelernter (formerly at Microsoft and a security researcher) and CBO Ran Nahmias (former head of cloud security at Check Point, with roles at Aqua Security and Microsoft).
