Overview
Iotas is a Portland, Ore.-based IoT-as-a-Service smart apartment platform that provides residents with a Smart Home solution that works right when they move in. The resident-facing product allows control and monitoring of unit entry, remote heating/cooling, leak detection, routines and scenes, and lighting via the app or voice (Amazon Alexa and Google Home). For building owners and property managers, the platform enables monitoring and streamlining of building operations by automating energy savings and managing vacant units and common areas. Led by founder and CEO Sce Pike, the company intends to use its Series A proceeds to grow its Enterprise SaaS offering. The company completed an $8.5M Series A led by Telus Ventures with participation from Liberty Global and early investor Intel Capital. As part of the investment, Jason Macdonnell (TELUS) and Don Parsons (Liberty Global Ventures) will join Iotas' board while Tim Enwall, Alison Andrew Reyes and Sce Pike will continue to serve. IOTAS builds a smart-apartment platform that combines hardware (smart thermostats, outlets, door and motion sensors) and software, with integrations to products like Nest and Amazon. The company customizes installations for individual apartments and works primarily with property managers, developers and residents in the multifamily industry. IOTAS says its platform increases property market value and occupancy while improving energy efficiency for occupied and vacant units. The startup is also developing a resident-facing marketplace and messaging forum, demonstrated at projects such as Seattle’s Nexus condominium development. Management plans to use new funding to expand operations, hire more employees, and add features to the technology. IOTAS employs 34 people and is led by CEO and founder Sce Pike and co-founder Jeremy Steinhauer. IOTAS develops a smart-home platform and the IOTAS Smart Hub that enables property developers and owners to deliver integrated connected-home experiences in multi-family rental units. Its offering streamlines installation and deployment of smart outlets, switches, thermostats, door locks, sensors and other devices, and supports popular products like Nest, Google Home and Amazon Alexa. Property managers use a centralized dashboard to control vacant units and common areas and deliver premium services, while residents manage homes remotely via the IOTAS Home app. The Smart Hub has already been integrated into several multi-family buildings in Oregon, California, Texas and Washington, with projects underway in 20 additional states and in Canada. IOTAS positions itself as an integration-first company addressing siloed smart-home solutions and targeting renters, particularly tech-savvy millennials. Financially, the company has raised a total of $5.3 million in funding, including recent strategic investments from Oregon Angel Fund and Rogue Venture Partners, along with prior support from the National Science Foundation, Creative Ventures, Oregon Best and Portland Seed Fund.
