Jecure Therapeutics is focused on discovery of novel therapeutics for NASH and liver fibrosis, leveraging a proprietary platform developed in the lab of academic founder Ariel Feldstein at UCSD. The platform includes proprietary assays and models such as siRNA-based murine fibrosis models, knock-in models for in vitro screening, and a unique NASH in vivo model that captures key disease features. The team has identified small-molecule inhibitors of a novel pro-inflammatory driver of NASH as its lead program and initially is targeting the inflammasome pathway. Jecure’s founding team includes CEO Jeffrey Stafford, PhD, and CSO James Veal, PhD, and the company has assembled a scientific advisory board of leading hepatology investigators. The company operates in San Diego and plans to name its first of several development candidates by late 2017. Financially, Jecure was seeded with a $20 million Series A commitment from Versant Ventures, which is the company’s sole investor, and the team says it continues discussions with strategic and financial partners while independently building its pipeline.
