Jelastic offers a PaaS that auto-scales Java and PHP applications without requiring code changes, using standard software stacks to avoid vendor lock-in. The company positions itself as a zero-code-change alternative to earlier Java cloud platforms and claims partnerships with 21 web hosting providers across more countries than any other cloud platform. Jelastic has Ukrainian and Russian roots and is a resident of the Skolkovo IT cluster. Last week it announced the appointment of Silicon Valley veteran John E. Derrick as CEO. The company says it will use new capital to boost R&D and sales operations and to support ongoing global growth. Recent prior financings include $2 million from Almaz Capital Partners and Foresight Ventures in April of last year and seed funding from Runa Capital in December 2010. Jelastic provides a hosted platform for deploying and autoscaling Java applications built around standard software stacks to avoid vendor lock‑in and code changes. It competes with Heroku and Google App Engine while positioning itself as hostable by multiple providers. The platform supports main software stacks and different databases and is available through partners in the US (Servint), Europe (dogado/HostEurope) and Russia (Rusonyx). The company launched a public beta in October 2011 and has since attracted over 15,000 unique users. Jelastic emphasizes rapid deployment and automatic scaling, with investors claiming it cuts deployment time from hours to minutes. Financially, the company has completed a $2.0M Series A and previously received $500k from Runa Capital.
