Overview

Joon Care is a Seattle teletherapy startup that delivers online therapy sessions and digital mental-health tools for patients ages 13–24, addressing anxiety, depression, disordered eating, sexual and gender identity, academic issues, and other challenges. The platform supports therapists with evidence-based care strategies and patient assessments to track progress, and Joon cites internal research showing measurable success. Since launching in 2019 as a Pioneer Square Labs spinout, the company has grown to more than 20 employees and nearly 100 therapists and now treats patients in Washington, Oregon, California, Texas, New York, Pennsylvania and Delaware. Over the past year it added eight in-network insurance plans, partnered with the City of Seattle to provide free care via human services referrals, and became a provider on the Valorant Health platform. Joon estimates 1.6 million teens and young people need care and is focusing on reaching parents and guardians through increased marketing and additional partnerships. The company is not profitable but says the new funding will extend operations while it scales access and outreach. Joon Care provides an evidence-based, mobile and personalized teletherapy service designed specifically for teens and young adults. The platform matches clients with licensed clinicians after an initial consultation and delivers a personalized treatment roadmap outlining the evidence-based skills covered in care. Treatment includes scheduled one-on-one teletherapy sessions with a dedicated therapist plus access to app-based skill-building resources. Clinical leadership, led by co-founder and Chief Psychologist Dr. Amy Mezulis, supervises all care provided. The service is powered by a purpose-built mobile app and therapist platform focused on anxiety, depression, stress and related conditions. The company is led by CEO Josh Herst and spun out of Pioneer Square Labs in April 2020 under the initial name UpLift.
