JouleX develops JEM for Data Centers, a software product that measures dynamic energy consumption and utilization of any device attached to the network. The product supports physical and virtual servers, core routers and switches, storage, power distribution units (PDUs) and other networked devices. JouleX positions its technology as a way to significantly cut energy consumption and reduce costs at large data centers—claiming reductions of about half. The company operates in a market where data-center energy use and pressure on power and cooling capacity are rising. JouleX faces competition from a range of companies (including Calxeda and VMware) but may also collaborate with some players whose technologies are complementary.
