June makes a countertop “smart” oven priced around $1,500 that uses a built-in camera and onboard processor to identify foods and cook them at recommended settings, and connects to a live-streaming app for remote checks. The team includes former Google, Apple and GoPro employees. The company has redesigned its heating architecture to improve heat distribution, broiling and baking performance and has switched manufacturing partners for plastics and sheet metal to improve product quality. June delayed its initial shipping from spring to the holiday season to implement those manufacturing and performance upgrades. It is conducting beta testing with about 100 ovens and will refund pre-orders for customers upset by the delay. The new funding will be used to continue hiring, build the team and work toward delivering the first batch on the revised timeline.
