Kapalya

1935 Addison St, Berkeley, CA, 94704, US

Overview

Kapalya has developed an enterprise-wide Encryption Management Platform (EMP) that provides key management and encrypts unstructured data across endpoints, mobile, cloud, VDI and on-prem servers. The EMP supports data recovery on endpoints after a ransomware breach without data leakage. To enhance that offering, Kapalya is developing an AI-based Advanced Counter Ransomware solution designed to prevent, remediate and eradicate ransomware in active memory spaces. Combined with the existing EMP, the company aims to deliver a comprehensive anti-ransomware solution for governments, enterprises and SMBs. Kapalya was awarded a $256,000 Phase I SBIR grant from the National Science Foundation to fund the R&D of this AI counter-ransomware technology. The article notes Phase I awardees become eligible to apply for Phase II funding (up to $1,000,000) and may qualify for up to $500,000 in additional matching funds with third-party investment or sales. Kapalya provides an enterprise-grade Encryption Management Platform (EMP) that enables businesses to securely store and share sensitive files at-rest and in-transit across multiple platforms through a user-friendly file system. The platform serves encryption keys in real time and destroys them after encrypt/decrypt operations, and it encrypts files on end-points, corporate servers and public cloud providers. Led by Founder and CEO Sudesh Kumar, the company positions its product to address heightened remote-work risks to data and file-sharing brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Kapalya closed a seed funding round of undisclosed size led by Caltrop Holdings. The company intends to use the funds to further enhance the EMP and to step up sales and marketing efforts in North America, the Middle East and Africa. Kapalya graduated from ICE71 Accelerate, a three-month cybersecurity accelerator co-founded by Singtel Innov8 and NUS Enterprise, in June 2020.
