Overview
Karuna is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing KarXT, a proprietary co-formulation of xanomeline and trospium designed to target M1/M4 muscarinic receptors for neuropsychiatric disorders. KarXT is being evaluated in a Phase 2 trial for acute psychosis in patients with schizophrenia, with preliminary results anticipated in late 2019. The company plans to explore KarXT’s potential in geriatric psychosis, psychosis in Alzheimer's disease, and pain, and to advance new formulations and its early discovery pipeline. Karuna was awarded a U.S. patent covering the xanomeline–trospium combination and has a worldwide exclusive license for xanomeline from founder PureTech Health. Financially, Karuna completed a $12 million extension to its Series B, bringing the total Series B to $80 million, including $5 million issued upon conversion of debt into equity. Proceeds from the financing are intended to support clinical expansion, formulation development, pipeline growth, and company infrastructure.
