KeepSafe builds a password-locked photo gallery app that stores private images on users’ phones. The app launched a year and a half ago and has grown to 13 million users, with 6 million monthly active users. Founder Zouhair Belkoura says many users rely on the app to separate work sketches and ideas from personal photos of friends and family, and some parents use it to hide adult content from children. KeepSafe generates revenue by selling premium services such as a fake PIN lock screen. The company plans to use new funding to hire more engineering and product development talent. The product targets a privacy-centric niche that the company says addresses basic user needs not solved by broader social networks.
