Kit
San Francisco, CA, United States
Overview
Kit is an Expa-backed social network that lets users choose, review and bundle products into themed "kits" (e.g., "My Desk Setup" or "My Photography Bag"). Users can monetize their kits by attaching their own Amazon Affiliate IDs to each product, and Kit currently passes affiliate revenue fully to users rather than taking a cut. The company has not yet turned on broader monetization and is focused on growing its user base and improving the discovery experience for end-users. Kit was created by Expa partner and Foursquare cofounder Naveen Selvadurai alongside CEO Camille Hearst. User acquisition has concentrated on recruiting experts and influencers with existing social followings; early popular categories include gear (photography, videography, gaming and desk equipment) and holistic, natural products like skincare. Kit plans to use funding to experiment with business models such as sponsorships and creator-facing SaaS tools.
