Overview
Kune is a Kenyan food-tech startup that prepares and delivers freshly made, ready-to-eat meals through a hybrid cloud and dark-kitchen model, owning its cooking, packaging and delivery operations. The company aims to offer affordable, convenient meals between Kibanda pricing and global on-demand delivery prices. Since launching a pilot, Kune sold more than 500 meals at an average price of about $4 and grew a waitlist and early customer base, including a $50,000 contribution from customers. Kune built a factory planned to produce 5,000 meals per day, with delivery promised in about 30 minutes on average. The startup plans to scale operations and headcount—targeting a team of roughly 100 by December—build a fleet of 100 electric motorcycles by early 2022 and hire 100 female drivers. Future product expansion includes microwavable meals, weight-reduction and retail meals and plans to target European and U.S. customers as well as create culinary content.
