Overview

Kutumb is a social networking app and community platform that enables discovery of relevant communities, curated content, discussions, member connections, and moderation/security within forums. The product also lets users create apps to connect with people, share news and updates, and serve as discussion platforms for local communities. The company targets Bharat and non-English speakers as its primary growth market. Kutumb was founded in 2020 by Abhishek Kejriwal, Vipul Allawadhi, and Naveen Dewangan and is Bangalore-based. According to filings, the startup recently raised funding that materially improved its balance sheet (see deal details). Earlier, Kutumb participated in Sequoia’s Surge (fourth cohort) and raised Rs 15.5 crore under the Surge programme in December 2020 from angels and investors including Kunal Bahl, Rohit Bansal, Sujeet Kumar, and Whiteboard Capital. Kutumb is a six-month-old social community platform that positions itself as a Reddit for the Hindi-speaking population (Bharat). The app fosters communities across several Hindi genres and targets users in tier II and III cities in Northern India. Notable groups on the platform include Shikshakgan, Khatu Shyam, Sarkari Exam, Railway Karmchari, and Bank Karmchari. The company says the app can handle from 100 users up to 10 million users with a better experience than Facebook or WhatsApp groups. The product is likely to be opened up to other vernacular languages. Founded by former Pratilipi executives Mohit Sharma, Naveen Dewangan, and Vipul Allawadhi, Kutumb is in an early stage of development.
