Overview
Lana, founded by Pablo Muniz and based in Madrid, offers a single account that aggregates siloed gig-platform wallets so Latin American gig workers can receive funds into one payment account. Users can open accounts at local merchant shops and receive a debit card for everyday use; Lana is also rolling out a bill-pay feature as the first step toward a marketplace of financial services. The company is distributing its product through partnerships with gig platforms — Cabify ran the initial pilot — and hundreds of customers are already using the service via that distribution deal. Lana plans to expand across Latin America, starting with Mexico, Chile and Peru and eventually moving into Colombia and Argentina. Over time the company intends to add credit products that use gig-platform transaction history to underwrite loans for cars or scooters. The product aims to speed payments to workers and create financial histories that traditional banks currently cannot access.
