LeKiosk
26 Rue Laffitte, Paris, 75009
Overview
LeKiosk operates a digital “stall” that sells digital facsimiles of magazines, positioning itself as the “Spotify of magazines” with a subscription and a la carte pricing model rather than freemium. The service runs on iOS, Android and desktop and is developing a Windows 8 app, with publishers including Condé Nast, Dennis and the BBC. It has seen strong early traction: 700,000 downloads to date (500,000 in year one), about 100,000 a la carte purchasers and roughly 30,000 subscription customers who pay €10/£10 for access to 10 magazines per month. The French store hosts around 600 titles, while the UK and Italy catalogs each have about 100 titles. LeKiosk expects revenues of €6 million this year, up from €1.4 million in 2011, and projects profitability by 2014. Planned product work includes boosting interactivity and social sharing features and adding comics under a separate €10-for-four-comics pricing plan.
