Lhyfe
1ter Mail Pablo Picasso, Nantes, Pays de la Loire, 44000, France
Overview
Lhyfe develops and produces green, renewable hydrogen aimed at transport and industrial customers. The company is described as a pioneer in the production of renewable hydrogen and emphasizes local production "in the territories, for the territories." It closed its first citizen financing campaign between May and July, raising about €2.5 million. Around 1,200 private individuals invested via the crowdfunding platform Lita.co. The funds were raised through obligations (citizen bonds); holders will receive a fixed remuneration. Founder and CEO Matthieu Guesné framed the campaign as a way for citizens to become actors in the development of this clean energy vector. Lhyfe develops renewable green hydrogen production sites that connect electrolysers to local renewable energy sources to produce hydrogen with zero CO2 emissions across the value chain. The company inaugurated its first production site in Bouin, Vendée, where an electrolyser powered by on-site wind turbines produces 300 kg/day and is planned to ramp up to 1 tonne/day. Lhyfe has confirmed about 60 projects across Europe, including a three-region French scheme that aims to produce 5 tonnes/day and supply 20 refuelling stations. Founded in 2017 and based in Nantes, France, the company employs 60 people and expects to double its headcount next year. Financially, Lhyfe has raised a €50M Series A and previously raised €70M between 2019 and 2021. Planned developments include accelerating offshore wind–to–hydrogen production with a demonstrator at the SEM-REV pilot site and expanding teams and projects across multiple European countries. Lhyfe specialises in green hydrogen produced by water electrolysis and has built both onshore facilities and the offshore ‘Sealhyfe’ electrolysis demonstrator. The company already operates green hydrogen facilities in France, with its latest plant in Occitanie due to start production next year, and has five additional plants under construction mainly in France and Germany. Lhyfe is pursuing expansion into the UK, having set up offices in the North East and opened a Sheffield office while targeting industrial customers in Yorkshire and the wider region. The firm is Euronext Paris‑listed and completed a €110m IPO last year. The company says the new financing will enable it to develop, construct and operate additional production units as it scales toward becoming a leading European green hydrogen producer. Lhyfe develops, invests in, and supplies 100% renewable green hydrogen primarily for transportation and industrial customers. Founded in 2017 and led by Matthieu Guesné, the company is headquartered in Nantes, France and claims to have inaugurated the world’s first industrial site producing renewable hydrogen from wind power in 2021. Lhyfe is active in ten European countries and reports a sales pipeline of over 90 projects across 11 countries with production start dates between 2022 and 2028. The company has run an offshore hydrogen development programme since 2019 and planned a pilot connected to a floating wind turbine to enter a test phase in Q3 2022, targeting 400 kilos of renewable hydrogen per day. Recent financing activity includes a €10M investment from Mitsui & Co. following a €66M raise in 2021, supporting its international expansion plans. Lhyfe develops and operates renewable green hydrogen production facilities. The company commissioned a 2.5 MW production facility in France in September 2021 that is designed to generate up to a ton of green hydrogen a day using electricity sourced directly from a nearby wind farm. Lhyfe is deploying additional renewable hydrogen production sites across Europe. To support that expansion it completed a third fundraising in which it raised €17 million. The round was led by Andera Partners through its new green infrastructure investment fund, Andera Infra, with backing from Ovive and Société Financière Lorient Développement. The proceeds are intended to accelerate Lhyfe’s strategy for deployment of production sites in Europe.
