LightOx's lead candidate, LXD191, is an oral gel designed to be activated by a light device to target oral epithelial dysplasia (OED). The company aims to offer a non-surgical alternative to painful, highly invasive surgery and radiotherapy commonly used for early-stage oral cancer. LightOx intends to finalise its pre-clinical data package over the next 12 months to enable advancement of LXD191 into clinical trials. The new funding will support that pre-clinical work and the next phase of the drug programme. Founders Carrie Ambler and Dr Sam Whitehouse launched the company and Professor Carrie Ambler serves as chief scientific officer. The team plans to increase its presence in Manchester and the North West to leverage regional life sciences expertise.
