Lithos

Via Serravalle 29, Oderzo, Treviso, 31046, Italy

Overview

Lithos applies enhanced rock weathering by spreading crushed basalt dust on croplands; when rain falls the basalt reacts with water and CO2 to form dissolved bicarbonate, permanently removing carbon. The process also releases nutrients that can increase crop yields and replaces agricultural lime, providing direct value to farmers. Lithos uses software to customize basalt deployments based on soil chemistry and crop nutrition and to measure carbon removal volumes. The company sells carbon removal credits to corporations and shares a portion of sales with the farmers where its product is applied. Lithos launched in March and is live across more than 1,000 acres and is the largest supplier of credits to Frontier, a $1 billion advance market commitment led by Stripe, Alphabet, Shopify, Meta, and McKinsey. Co-founders include CEO Mary Yap and professors Noah Planavsky and Chris Reinhard, who co-invented verification technology used by the company. Lithos announced a $6.29 million seed round to scale operations.
