Liverpool ChiroChem (LCC) is a chemistry-based CRO that produces and supplies chiral small molecules to the global pharmaceutical and biotech research and development sector. The company supports a global customer base from its research and development headquarters in Liverpool and a manufacturing facility in Taizhou, China. Its work targets discovery and development across multiple therapeutic areas, including dementia, cancer and respiratory conditions. LCC has recently won business from two of the world’s top five pharmaceutical companies. The business announced senior appointments and launched a scientific advisory board to maximise the commercial impact of its chemical components. LCC intends to use the new funding to accelerate growth. Liverpool ChiroChem is a chemistry-based contract research organisation spun out from Liverpool University and led by CEO Dr Paul Colbon. The company produces and supplies chiral small molecules used as building blocks, fragments, APIs and intermediates to support small-molecule drug discovery, lead generation and optimisation. LCC counts over 70 pharma, biotech and agrochemical customers, including Merck, Novartis, Domainex, Syngenta and Bayer. The company will use the new funding to expand UK-based R&D and sales teams and to increase production capacity through construction of a new facility at China Medical City in Taizhou, Jiangsu Province. Founded in 2015, LCC intends to complete a further fundraising later in the year to expand its workforce and build its product library. Prior to the latest round the company had raised £1.1m in private equity from VCs and angel investors.
