Locana is an RNA-targeting gene therapy company with a platform technology aimed at addressing a wide spectrum of human genetic diseases. The company has developed a modular RNA targeting-effector approach that it says is distinct from DNA-targeted approaches and nucleic acid-based RNA targeting. Locana intends to build a portfolio of therapies that address root causes of genetic diseases driven by dysfunctional RNA behavior. The company plans to use the funds to advance and expand its pipeline of RNA-targeting gene therapy programs, further extend capabilities of the Locana platform, and assemble a premier leadership team. Locana was founded in 2016, is led by CEO Jeffrey M. Ostrove, Ph.D., and its technology was developed in the laboratory of Professor Eugene Yeo and licensed from UC San Diego. David Nelles, Ph.D., is CTO and co-founder, and Ranjan Batra, Ph.D., is vice president of research and development.
