Overview
Loco2 is a pan-European rail-only booking startup that aggregates rail operator inventory to let users book and print tickets, including advanced discount Turista Promo fares on Spain's Renfe. The Renfe partnership adds about 1,605 stations and access to roughly 1,400km of Spain's high-speed network, expanding comprehensive coverage to the U.K., France, Germany and Spain and enabling bookings across roughly a dozen European countries (with limited coverage in some markets). The service supports print-at-home tickets and postal tickets where required, and the company integrated with the U.K.'s central booking system to allow U.K. origin bookings into continental Europe. Loco2 says traffic has grown ~380% year-over-year (comparing February to the same month the prior year). Future plans cited include improving coverage in Belgium and the Netherlands and enhancing timetable data to handle more complex pan-European itineraries. Financially, the company has been funded through seed and angel rounds and recently closed another angel round, bringing total funding to date to £1 million. Loco2 operates a proprietary online platform that allows customers to search and book single- and multi-leg train journeys across Europe through one interface. Launched in April 2012 and based in London, the company has established contracts with major operators SNCF and Deutsche Bahn. It also maintains partnerships with travel site Seat61 and the Guardian (Guardian Trains). Led by Managing Director Jamie Andrews, Loco2 recently raised external funding and intends to use the proceeds to continue expanding operations. The article reports a £300k funding raise; no revenue or user metrics were disclosed.
