Lucent Bio develops sustainable agricultural inputs, centered on its Nutreos seed treatment, a biodegradable and micro-plastic-free seed coating intended to improve germination, vigour, and crop establishment. Lucent Bio recently opened its Soileos micronutrient fertilizer plant in Rosetown, Saskatchewan. The company raised over $3.6M in funding to enhance Nutreos's formulation and effectiveness. Lucent BioSciences is an AgTech company based in Vancouver, BC that has developed a patent-pending fertilizer using cellulose fiber as a nutrient delivery agent. The product is carbon neutral, non-polluting, and designed to improve crop yield and soil health. The company works with food processing companies to upcycle low-value cellulose fibers into high-value fertilizer and seed treatments, and collaborates with several large fertilizer companies to develop custom solutions from its technology. Lucent raised $4.2M in funding from Emmertech, Amathaon, SVG Ventures, WUTIF Capital, Vantec/eFund and Vancouver-based angel investors. The company intends to use the funds to accelerate development of sustainable fertilizers and seed treatments, expand manufacturing, bolster commercialization, and prepare a Series A round in 2022.
