Luka operates an AI-powered messaging service that connects users to a variety of smart bots for tasks such as restaurant recommendations, weather and news reports, image and GIF searches, and games. The company originally launched as a text-based Yelp competitor allowing users to ask about restaurants, reservations, and recommended dishes. With today's launch Luka serves as the main operator, routing conversations to appropriate bots based on user intent rather than requiring users to request a specific bot. The app adds a bot interface with widgets and shortcuts so users can tap to invoke specific bots like games or weather reports. Cofounder and CEO Eugenia Kuyda said the company plans to eventually open the platform to third-party developers after ensuring bot quality. Luka announced a $4.42 million Series A led by Sherpa Capital, with participation from Y Combinator, Ludlow Ventures and Justin Waldron.
