Overview
Luminovo offers a cloud-based AI software suite designed to connect every stage of the electronics value chain to speed development, reduce errors, and cut electronic waste. Its platform improves real-time collaboration and prevents costly mistakes, enabling productivity gains for partners. Customers span industrial, healthcare, automotive and energy sectors. The company plans to broaden its scope to cover more of the value chain and to grow its product engineering and revenue teams. Luminovo launched in 2020 and is led by Stanford alumni Sebastian Schaal and Timon Ruban. The article does not report operating metrics or revenue figures. Luminovo offers a SaaS layer designed to reduce the time and resources needed to go from an idea to a market-ready electronic product. The company has developed LumiQuote, a request-for-quote (RfQ) product that enables electronics manufacturing services (EMS) to request and manage quotes. Luminovo is preparing for a public launch of its RfQ product. The startup raised over €2.5 million in its latest financing from eight business angels. Named angels in the round include Daniel Dines, Charles Songhurst, Carsten Thoma and Jan Stumpf. In spring 2020 Luminovo previously secured over €2 million in pre-seed funding from Cherry Ventures, La Famiglia and Hanno Renner. The company says it is determined to build a strong European deep-tech company made in Germany. Luminovo develops customized AI solutions and tooling to streamline electronics development and manufacturing preparation, aiming to reduce time and resource requirements to bring circuit boards to market. Since its 2017 founding the team has pivoted to focus on the electronics industry (since end of 2019) after delivering AI projects for roughly 20 customers and more than 30 projects. A highlighted engagement with Infineon showed potential to cut around 67% of functional tests during chip development, saving millions of hours of simulation time, producing double-digit‑million euro cost savings and enabling about three months earlier time-to-market. The founders, Timon Ruban and Sebastian Schaal, both trained in electrical engineering (ETH Zurich and TU Munich) and studied at Stanford, have built a team from top universities including Stanford, Cambridge, Oxford and ETH. With the new capital the company plans to push product development, hire additional staff, acquire pilot customers, and pursue its stated goal of building a leading electronics engineering operating system. The company is based in Munich and has grown its team and capabilities since inception in 2017.
