Overview
Lunchbox offers a suite of enterprise restaurant products including app and web ordering, catering, order aggregation, guest engagement, marketing, and an open API platform. The company supports over 5,000+ restaurant locations nationwide, including Firehouse Subs, Torchy's Tacos, Taco Bueno, and Clean Juice. Since 2022 Lunchbox reports a 340% increase in average deal size and 300% growth in product adoption, with average products per client rising from 1 to 4. The company is sharpening its focus on AI and automation and plans to accelerate product development and enterprise capabilities following a new capital investment led by Shift4. The strategic partnership will position Lunchbox as the prioritized enterprise solution for Shift4's SkyTab POS. Leadership changes accompany the round: James Walker was appointed CEO while Nabeel Alamgir remains Executive Chairman to double down on AI and automation. Lunchbox provides online ordering tools, apps, loyalty programs and a full digital tech stack designed for enterprise restaurant chains and ghost kitchens. The company positions itself as an alternative to third-party delivery platforms by offering flat monthly fees and transparent data sharing, analysis and remarketing tools. Lunchbox has expanded via product moves including the acquisition of Spread and the launch of a digital food hall, C3. It has grown headcount from 51 to 250 across the U.S., Canada and the U.K., and processed over $3 million in orders in 2021 from more than 970,000 guests. The company plans to focus on expanding into mid-market customers, enterprises and ghost kitchens and will invest new capital into product R&D and hiring across departments. Leadership additions include hiring former General Assembly COO Kieran Luke as Lunchbox COO. Lunchbox builds white-label ordering experiences that let restaurants capture direct online orders via their own websites and apps rather than relying solely on third-party marketplaces. The founders—CEO Nabeel Alamgir (formerly Bareburger CMO), Andrew Boryk and Hadi Rashid—launched the company last year. Lunchbox has sped onboarding from more than 100 days to 44 days and reports its customer base grew 925% over the last year. The company says new customers typically see a 30% increase in sales after adopting its platform. Lunchbox supports new business models like delivery via cloud kitchens and has partnerships with Ordermark, Sodexo, Kiwibot and sbe while experimenting with autonomous delivery. With the new funding it plans to bring on more restaurants, improve the product, move to a self-serve model next year to reach independent restaurants, become point-of-sale agnostic and expand the team.
