Magnomatics develops proprietary magnetic transmissions and ultra-high-torque, ultra-compact motors and generators. Led by CEO Chris Kirby, the company has created lubricant-free magnetic transmissions and magnetically geared motors that offer new engineering possibilities. Its products target applications including wind turbines, hybrid vehicles, marine propulsion, and broader sectors such as renewable energy, automotive, aerospace and defence. The company spun out of the University of Sheffield in 2006 and is based in Sheffield, UK. It is using the new funding to complete development of its magnetically geared motors for the hybrid and electric vehicle market.
