Overview

Malwarebytes offers consumer and business cybersecurity and endpoint protection products, and has recently added vulnerability and patch management, DNS protection, and cloud storage scanning with more prevention modules planned. The company reports about 20,000 business customers and 3.5 million paying consumer subscribers. Leadership says Malwarebytes is cash-flow positive even after a recent strategic reorganization that cut roughly 125 employees (about 14% of its global workforce). The layoffs predominantly impacted employees in the San Francisco area. CEO Marcin Kleczynski said the company will accelerate hiring following new investment and plans to expand MSP partner and international channel programs. Malwarebytes intends to use funding to consolidate its ownership structure and further build out its product portfolio. Malwarebytes develops advanced malware prevention and remediation software; its flagship Malwarebytes Anti-Malware uses a highly advanced heuristic detection engine that the company says removed more than five billion malicious threats. The company protects millions of consumers and tens of thousands of businesses—its software ran on 250 million unique endpoints in 2015 and more than 70,000 SMBs and enterprise customers trust its products. Founded in 2008 and headquartered in San Jose, California, Malwarebytes was bootstrapped until a $30 million Series A in July 2014 led by Highland Capital Partners. Financially, Malwarebytes surpassed $100 million in annualized billings in 2015, reported its 31st consecutive cash-flow-positive quarter, and said revenues grew more than 120% driven by rapid enterprise expansion. Following the new investment, the company plans to hire more engineers and accelerate strategic sales, marketing and future product initiatives in its fast-growing enterprise business. The company and its products have received independent recognition from testing labs and industry press, including AV-TEST, CNET and PC Magazine. Launched in 2008 and led by CEO Marcin Kleczynski, Malwarebytes offers consumer and enterprise products to stop advanced malware, zero-day exploits and mobile threats. Its flagship product, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, uses a behavior-based detection engine to remove malicious threats from computers. The company operates offices in Europe and employs a global team of researchers and experts. Malwarebytes provides a platform aimed at protecting people and businesses from advanced online threats across devices. In 2014 the company received funding to support its growth and international expansion. The company intends to use new capital to accelerate the global expansion of its security technologies.
