Overview
Mansa is a free ad-supported streaming service and content aggregator that curates global Black cultural content across on-demand titles, digital linear (FAST) channels, short-form videos and user-generated content. The platform has licensed more than 1,500 hours of content and offers over 24 licensed FAST channels alongside a TikTok-style mobile feed that surfaces trending videos from YouTube, TikTok and Instagram. Founders include actors David Oyelowo, Chiké Okonkwo and Nate Parker, together with tech entrepreneur and film financier Zak Tanjeloff. Mansa has a team of more than 30 employees with experience from major media companies and says its retention metrics are ahead of comparable AVOD platforms, with notably low user acquisition costs. The service is live in the U.S. across web, Roku, Fire TV, Android TV, iOS and Android, and plans device rollouts to Samsung, Vizio and LG later this year and international expansion beginning with Nigeria. Future plans include original programming via Mansa Originals, a Future Storytellers Fund to finance 100 Black filmmakers, creator equity and profit-participation models, and eventual web3 features.
