Marine & Auto Security Solutions (MASS) develops Guardian, a “P”-shaped plastic device that slots over ship guard rails to prevent grappling hooks and roofing ladders from gaining purchase. Guardian was invented by Teresa Stevens and is designed to be fitted in minutes. In tests, Royal Marines attempted to defeat the barrier for two hours and failed. The company is led by David Stevens and is based in Portland, Dorset, UK. MASS raised over £115k in equity crowdfunding on Crowdcube, with 81 backers acquiring an 11.8% stake. The company intends to use the funds to build up stocks of Guardian in the Middle and Far East and to market the product internationally.
