Maverick
331 N Maple Dr, Fl 2, Beverly Hills, California, 90210, United States
Overview
Maverick is a social network aimed at girls and young women (typically ages 10–20) that connects them with female role models called Catalysts and lets users respond to creative challenges via photo or 30-second video. The platform removes likes and uses points and badges (unique, creative, unstoppable, and daring) to reward engagement, with plans to add more badges over time. Mavericks can progress through a game-like loop toward becoming Catalysts who set challenges and inspire others. The company plans to hold one-day live events across the country to showcase emerging users in areas like STEAM, entrepreneurship, comedy, and music; the first live event is scheduled in Los Angeles. Maverick launches out of beta today as a free app focused on growing its user base. The founders, Brooke Chaffin and Catherine Connors, met while working at the Walt Disney Company. The company has raised $2.7 million in seed funding and the founders see an opportunity to offer a subscription for premium features similar to LinkedIn in the future.
